Fighting the Right Way: From Arguing to Armor

There was a time when I thought I was fighting the right way.
If something felt off… I addressed it.
If I felt hurt… I reacted.
If there was tension… I argued my point.
And in my mind, I justified it.
“I’m just speaking up.”
“I’m not going to be disrespected.”
“I’m defending myself.”
But the truth?
I was fighting a spiritual battle with carnal weapons.
And I was losing.
Arguing Feels Powerful, But It’s Actually a Trap
Let’s be real, arguing can feel like control.
You feel heard.
You feel like you’re standing your ground.
You feel like you’re “winning.”
But what if I told you…
Every time you choose argument over prayer, you step out of position.
Because spiritual battles are not won through volume, they’re won through authority.
And authority doesn’t come from emotions.
It comes from alignment with God.
Learning when to be quiet is one of the hardest lessons.
Not silent because you’re afraid.
Not silent because you have nothing to say.
But silent because you understand timing and authority.
Jesus didn’t argue with everyone.
There were moments He answered, and moments He said nothing.
Why?
Because He wasn’t moved by emotion.
He was led by the Father.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is:
Walk away
Go pray
Let God handle what your flesh wants to control
That’s not weakness.
That’s discipline.

The Shift: From Reaction to Revelation
The Holy Spirit began to deal with me deeply.
Not about what I was saying… but how I was fighting.
I had to learn something that changed everything:
Not every battle is meant to be argued, some are meant to be prayed through.
I had to be honest with myself…
My reactions weren’t producing peace.
My words weren’t producing healing.
And my approach definitely wasn’t reflecting Christ.
So the Lord corrected me.
He showed me that arguing in the flesh only fuels what the enemy is trying to do.
When You Realize the Fight Was Never Them
There comes a moment where the Holy Spirit will check you and say, “You’re fighting the wrong person.”
It feels real.
The frustration feels justified.
The words feel necessary.
But the truth is, most of what we’re reacting to in the natural has a spiritual root.
You thought it was:
Your spouse
Your coworker
Your friend
But it’s deeper than that.
The enemy studies patterns, weaknesses, and open doors. He knows how to push emotional buttons and create division, especially in homes, especially in marriages, and especially in the minds of men and women who are called to lead.
So while you’re arguing in the flesh…
he’s winning in the spirit.
This Is Bigger Than You Think
Men, This Is Your Call to Stand Up Spiritually
This is something that cannot be ignored.
Men are under attack, heavily.
Not just physically or mentally… but spiritually.
We are seeing:
Rage
Anger
Envy
Irritability
Harshness
And sadly… it often shows up in the place that should be safest, their homes.
Towards their wives.
The very women they stood before God and vowed to love.
But Scripture is clear:
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” — Ephesians 5:25
That kind of love is sacrificial.
Patient.
Gentle.
Intentional.
So when we see the opposite, we must recognize:
This is spiritual.
The enemy is after:
Your leadership
Your identity
Your role as covering over your home
And when a man is out of position spiritually, everything connected to him feels it.
That’s why:
Anger is high
Patience is low
Respect feels broken in homes
But here’s the truth:
You were never called to lead with anger. You were called to lead in prayer.
To cover your wife.
To cover your children.
To repent when necessary.
To get in the Word and stand firm.
This is not about perfection.
This is about position.

Women Stop Carrying What Was Never Yours
And for the women…
You were never meant to carry the spiritual weight of everything.
When the man is not leading spiritually, many women step in and overcompensate. It feels necessary, but it creates imbalance.
And then frustration builds.
Believe me, I've been here multiple times.
But God is calling you too:
Back into prayer instead of pressure
Back into trust instead of control
Back into alignment instead of striving
It's not our role to fix people; that is solely God's responsibility.
Our duty is to pray, fast, and maintain faith.

The Armor Is Not Optional
This is where everything shifts.
You cannot fight spiritually if you’re not equipped spiritually.
The armor of God is not just a nice scripture to quote, it’s instruction.
Ask yourself honestly:
Are you guarding your mind with truth?
Are you walking in righteousness when no one sees?
Are you rooted in peace or easily shaken?
Are you using the Word when attacked or just reacting?
Because when the enemy comes, and he will, you don’t rise to the occasion…
You fall to the level of your preparation.
What Fighting the Right Way Actually Looks Like
Fighting the right way looks like:
• Praying before responding
• Checking your heart before correcting someone else
• Speaking life instead of reacting in anger
• Opening your Bible instead of opening your mouth too quickly
• Letting God correct you before trying to correct others
It’s not flashy.
It’s not loud.
But it’s powerful.
Learning to Fight With the Armor
I had to learn how to truly fight.
Not with my mouth.
Not with my emotions.
But with the full armor of God.
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” — Ephesians 6:11
That meant:
Praying instead of snapping back
Covering my husband instead of criticizing him
Speaking life instead of death
Going to God before going off
Was it easy? No!
Did my flesh like it? Absolutely not.
But it was necessary.
Because when I stopped arguing and started praying…
Things began to shift.

Prayer Changes the Battlefield
Prayer does what arguing never can.
It:
Invites God into the situation
Breaks spiritual strongholds
Softens hearts (yours and theirs)
Brings clarity instead of confusion
“The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” — 2 Corinthians 10:4
When you pray, you’re not being passive…
You’re being powerful.
A Call to Men: Step Back Into Position
Men of God, this is your call back.
You must get in the Word of God.
You cannot lead spiritually if you are spiritually empty.
God has already established your role:
“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church…” — Ephesians 5:23
Being the head is not about control… it’s about responsibility.
It means:
Covering your wife in prayer
Covering your children in prayer (if you have them)
Leading with humility, not ego
Repenting when you are wrong
Walking in obedience to God
This is not the hour to be passive.
This is the hour to repent and get right with God while you still have the chance.
Your family needs your leadership.
Your home needs your covering.
And God is calling you higher.

Stop Fighting Flesh With Flesh
The enemy would love nothing more than for us to:
React emotionally
Argue back
Match energy
Tear each other down
Because if he can get both sides operating in the flesh…
He wins.
But God calls us higher.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers…” — Ephesians 6:12
That means your spouse is not your enemy.
Your spouse is not your enemy.
A Word for the Women
This does not mean you tolerate abuse or mistreatment.
God is not calling you to suffer in silence.
But He is calling you to:
Discern the spirit behind the behavior
Respond in wisdom, not just emotion
Stay rooted in Him, not reaction
There is a difference between setting boundaries and engaging in battles God never told you to fight.
A Personal Shift
I thought defending myself meant raising my voice.
I thought being right meant I had to prove it.
But God showed me something different.
He showed me that every time I chose prayer over argument, I gained ground I couldn’t see in the natural.
He showed me that peace is more powerful than being right.
And obedience is more powerful than emotion.
You don’t win spiritual battles by being louder…
You win them by being aligned, equipped, and submitted to God.
So the next time you feel the urge to argue…
Pause.
And ask yourself:
“Am I fighting the right way?”
Final Reflection
I had to unlearn a lot.
I had to lay down pride.
I had to crucify my flesh.
I had to trust God enough to fight His way… not mine.
And I’m still learning.
But one thing I know for sure:
Arguing never brought the breakthrough.
Prayer did.
Closing Prayer
Father God,
We come to You humbly, asking for wisdom, patience, and discernment.
Teach us how to fight the right way.
Help us to put on the full armor daily and not be led by our flesh.
Strengthen the men, Lord. Call them back into position.
Give them a hunger for Your Word and a heart of repentance.
Teach them to lead, to cover, and to love as You have called them to.
And for the women, give us grace, strength, and spiritual maturity to respond in a way that honors You.
Restore what the enemy has tried to divide.
Bring peace where there has been chaos.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
— The Surrendered Walk

This was a very compelling read. It really shows how our own flesh can be used by the enemy and distract us from what god is calling us to. The breakdown from the two different perspectives really shows how having god at the center of your life makes it impossible for the enemy to get in between what god is covering
