You Can’t Inherit Salvation: Why Your Relationship With Jesus Must Be Personal

There comes a moment in every believer’s life where borrowed faith is no longer enough.

It’s important, no, it’s necessary, to seek Christ for yourself. Not through your parents. Not through your grandparents. Not through your spouse, your pastor, or your upbringing. Those things can introduce you to God, but they cannot carry you into the Kingdom.

A relationship with Jesus is personal.

The truth is simple: we cannot and will not make it into the Kingdom of God without a real, intentional relationship with Christ. Church attendance isn’t enough. Knowing scriptures by memory isn’t enough. Even being raised in a Christian home isn’t enough. Salvation requires surrender. It requires repentance. It requires you.

And here’s something many people don’t say enough:

You also cannot live this life in true, lasting peace without a relationship with Jesus.

Not surface-level peace. Not temporary calm. But real peace, the kind that steadies you in chaos, comforts you in pain, and anchors you when life feels uncertain. That kind of peace only comes from Christ. Without Him, you may have moments of relief, but not the deep, sustaining peace your soul was created for.

The Word of God is alive and active, but you have to get in it for yourself. And when you do, don’t approach it casually, approach it spiritually. Before you even open your Bible, invite the Holy Spirit in.

Ask for understanding. Ask for clarity. Ask for revelation. God is not trying to hide truth from you, He wants to reveal it to you.

But understand this too: the moment you decide to pursue Jesus wholeheartedly, opposition will come.

The enemy does not fight what he already has. He fights what is trying to get free.

Be mindful. Be alert. The enemy will do everything he can to distract you, discourage you, and deceive you. He will whisper lies like:

  • “You’re too far gone.”

  • “You’ve messed up too much.”

  • “This isn’t for you.”

But those are exactly what they are, lies.

Because the truth is, God is still calling you.

I can speak on this from a real place.

I was not perfect. I did not always live a life led by Christ. There were seasons where I lived completely outside of God’s will, making decisions rooted in flesh, entering into relationships and marriages that were not centered on Him, and dealing with the consequences that followed.

And those consequences were real.

Living outside of God’s will doesn’t produce peace, it produces stress, confusion, and spiritual emptiness. It may look like life on the outside, but on the inside, it’s draining. It’s heavy. It’s deadly in ways people don’t always see.

Because a life outside of God’s will… isn’t truly living at all.

But even in my lowest places, when the enemy’s influence felt the strongest, God never took His hands off of me.

That’s grace.

That’s mercy.

That’s love.

I am deeply grateful that He didn’t allow me to die in my sin. That He kept calling me. That He protected me even when I wasn’t protecting myself. That He covered me when I was making choices that didn’t reflect Him.

And that same grace is available to you.

This is your reminder:

You don’t need a perfect past to have a powerful future in Christ.

But you do need a decision.

A decision to turn away from sin.

A decision to seek Him daily.

A decision to stop depending on someone else’s relationship with God and build your own.

Repent. Get in the Word. Stay in the Word.

And when you feel confused, overwhelmed, or unsure, pause and invite the Holy Spirit in. He is your helper, your teacher, and your guide.

Don’t ignore the tug you feel in your spirit.

That’s not coincidence, that’s God calling you closer.

And the moment you respond… everything begins to change.

Before you go…
