đź“–Key Scriptures:

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

— Psalm 37:7

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

— Isaiah 40:31

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

— Psalm 27:14

Waiting Is One of the Hardest Lessons of Faith

If I’m being transparent, waiting has never been easy for me.

There have been many seasons in my life where I was waiting on an answer from the Lord. But one season, in particular, changed everything.

I had been praying, seeking, and asking God for direction. The silence felt long, and in my impatience, I convinced myself that maybe God was taking too long.

Instead of waiting for His answer, I made my own decision based on what I thought was best.

It didn’t end well.

What I thought would speed up God’s plan only created unnecessary pain, confusion, and consequences that I had to walk through.

That season taught me something I will never forget:

God does not move because I tell Him to move. He moves according to His perfect timing and His perfect will.

Sometimes the delay isn’t because God isn’t working.

Sometimes He’s working on us.

God Was Aligning My Heart

Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t fully aligned with His will. I wasn’t aligned at all if I’m being completely honest, I had conformed to the patterns of the world.

There were areas where I needed to surrender more deeply. There were places where I needed repentance, healing, and transformation. I wanted God to bless plans that I had already created (bless my mess) instead of asking Him what His plans were for me.

The Lord wasn’t withholding something good from me.

He was preparing me for something better.

The waiting season became a refining season.

It exposed my impatience, my desire for control, and my tendency to get ahead of God.

His Plans Were Better Than Mine

One Scripture that carried me through was:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

(Jeremiah 29:11)

I had my own timeline.

I had my own expectations.

I thought I knew exactly when certain things should happen, marriage, ministry, opportunities, and answered prayers.

But God knew better.

If something didn’t happen when I wanted it to, it wasn’t because God had forgotten me.

It was because His timing was perfect.

Today, I can honestly say that His plans were greater than anything I could have planned for myself.

When I finally surrendered my timeline, I discovered that God’s “yes” is worth waiting for, and sometimes His “not yet” is just as much a blessing.

Waiting Built My Faith

Waiting wasn’t comfortable.

But it strengthened my trust.

It taught me to depend on God’s Word instead of my emotions.

It taught me to seek Jesus instead of trying to control outcomes.

It taught me that faith isn’t proven when prayers are answered immediately.

Faith is proven when we continue trusting even when Heaven seems quiet.

Isaiah reminds us that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. That promise isn’t just for people who receive instant answers.

It’s for those who keep trusting while they wait.

God Redeems Our Mistakes

Maybe you’re reading this thinking,

“But I’ve already made mistakes because I didn’t wait.”

So did I.

Maybe you entered relationships outside of God’s will.

Maybe you had children outside of marriage.

So did I.

Maybe you’ve lived in sexual immorality, addiction, pride, or rebellion.

So did I.

The beautiful truth of the gospel is this:

When we repent and turn to Jesus, we are not defined by our past.

God doesn’t ignore our mistakes, but He is able to redeem them.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Notice it says all things.

Even the painful chapters.

Even the consequences.

Even the failures.

God is able to weave every surrendered piece of our story into His greater purpose.

That doesn’t give us permission to continue living in sin. Rather, it gives us hope that our past doesn’t have the final word.

Through Christ, we become new creations.

We no longer live under condemnation.

Instead, we walk in conviction, allowing the Holy Spirit to continue renewing us into the image of Christ.

Sometimes God’s Answer Is “No”

One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn is that waiting doesn’t always end with the answer I was hoping for.

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes the answer is wait.

And sometimes the answer is simply no.

As difficult as that can be to accept, we have to remember that God is a loving Father who sees what we cannot. He knows the end from the beginning. He knows what will draw us closer to Him, what will distract us from Him, and what could ultimately harm us if He allowed it into our lives.

Many times, what we’re asking for isn’t something we truly need, it’s simply something we deeply desire.

There’s nothing wrong with bringing our desires before the Lord. He invites us to pray about everything. But we must also trust Him enough to accept His answer, even when it isn’t the one we wanted.

His “no” isn’t rejection.

It’s protection.

It’s wisdom.

It’s love.

It may hurt for a season. It may leave us grieving what we hoped would happen. But even in that pain, God is still good, and He is still worthy of our trust.

Abide in Christ

Jesus never told us to strive harder.

He told us to abide.

As we remain in Him, He changes our desires, directs our steps, and teaches us to trust His timing.

Waiting becomes easier when our eyes are fixed on Jesus instead of the clock.

The Lord is never late.

He is never rushed.

He is never uncertain.

He is always faithful.

If you’re in a waiting season today, don’t waste it trying to force doors open that God has closed.

Allow Him to prepare your heart.

Allow Him to align your life with His will.

His timing will always accomplish more than our rushing ever could.

And when you finally look back, you may discover exactly what I did:

God didn’t just answer my prayers.

He gave me far more than I ever knew to ask for.

While You Wait: Practical Ways to Stay Anchored

  1. Stay in the Word of God daily. Even when you don’t feel like you’re hearing from God, remember that He has already spoken through His Word.

  2. Meditate on Scriptures about waiting, trusting, and God’s faithfulness. Read passages like Psalm 27, Psalm 37, Isaiah 40, Lamentations 3:25–26, and Romans 8:28. Let them become an anchor for your heart.

  3. Study the lives of those who waited on God’s promises. Scripture is full of men and women who experienced long seasons of waiting. Abraham and Sarah waited years for the promised son. Joseph waited through betrayal, slavery, and prison before God fulfilled His purpose. Hannah waited and cried out to God for a child. David was anointed king but waited years before he sat on the throne. The nation of Israel waited centuries for the promised Messiah after the prophets declared His coming, yet God fulfilled every promise in His perfect time through Jesus Christ. God’s delays were never God’s denials.

  4. Pray honestly. God is not offended by your questions or your tears. Bring every burden before Him, but surrender the outcome to His will.

  5. Continue obeying the last thing God told you to do. Don’t stop walking in obedience simply because you’re waiting for the next instruction.

Remember that waiting is preparation, not punishment. God is often doing a deeper work in your heart before He entrusts you with what you’ve been praying for.

The waiting season may feel long, but it is never wasted when it is surrendered to the Lord. Every moment spent abiding in Christ is producing something eternal within you. Trust that the God who made the promise is faithful to fulfill it in His perfect timing.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for never abandoning me while I wait. Forgive me for the times I’ve rushed ahead of You and trusted my own understanding instead of Your perfect wisdom. Help me to surrender my timeline, my expectations, and my plans into Your hands. Align my heart with Your will, strengthen my faith while I wait, and teach me to abide in Christ daily. Thank You that You redeem my past, renew my heart, and work all things together for good according to Your purpose. I choose today to trust that Your timing is perfect because You are perfectly faithful. Holy Spirit help me to be okay and to continue to trust you even if Your answer is, No. In Jesus name, Amen.
