Ichabod: When the Glory Departs

đź“– Main Scripture:
Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
I Samuel 4:21 NKJV
(We want to encourage you to read the books of Samuel for yourself for more understanding of what had happened and how it's still relevant today.)

There is no better feeling than receiving confirmation from the Holy Spirit. There are moments when you walk into a room, a conversation, or even a church gathering, and you can feel the presence of God so strongly that it brings conviction, peace, reverence, and truth all at once. The Holy Spirit confirms what is of God.
But just as the Holy Spirit confirms when He is present… He will also reveal when He is not.
That discernment matters more now than ever before.
We live in a generation where many people have mastered the appearance of church while lacking the presence of God. Buildings are full. Stages are polished. Emotions run high. But the question believers must begin asking is this:
Is the Holy Spirit truly here?
In The Holy Bible, after Israel experienced judgment because of rebellion and dishonor toward God, a child was born and named Ichabod, meaning:
“The glory has departed.”
The people still had religious activity.
They still had tradition.
They still had rituals.
But they had lost the glory of God.
That is one of the most dangerous places a church or believer can be , continuing outward worship while the Spirit of God is no longer leading.
Many people today are attending gatherings that entertain flesh but never convict the heart. Some sermons motivate people emotionally but never call people to repentance. Some environments celebrate comfort more than holiness, popularity more than truth, and performance more than surrender.
And yet many believers cannot discern the difference because discernment has not been cultivated through prayer, Scripture, fasting, and intimacy with God.
The Word of God warns about people in 2 Timothy 3:5 to avoid those who display…
“Having a form of godliness but denying its power.”
That scripture is not only speaking about the world.
It is also a warning to the church.

The Holy Spirit does not simply make us feel good. He convicts. He corrects. He leads us into truth. He exposes sin because He loves us enough not to leave us bound by it.
A church led by the Holy Spirit will not only excite you.
It will challenge you.
It will call you higher.
It will point you back to Jesus instead of constantly feeding your flesh.
This is why believers must pray for discernment.
Not every voice speaking in God’s name was sent by God.
Not every spiritual atmosphere is holy.
Not every open door is from Heaven.
The Word tells us in 1 John 4:1 NKJV :
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Discernment is not judgmentalness.
Discernment is protection.
God never called His people to blindly follow personalities, platforms, or popularity. He called us to follow Christ and be led by the Holy Spirit.
The goal is not to attack churches or condemn people.
The goal is to remain sensitive to God’s presence and anchored in truth.
We should be praying for our churches.
Praying for our leaders.
Praying for revival.
Praying that God’s Spirit would truly dwell among His people again in power, purity, conviction, and truth.
Because once the glory departs, people can continue operating in routine and not even realize what has been lost.
Ichabod.
May we never become so comfortable with religion that we stop noticing when the presence of God is absent.
Questions to Reflect on Your Heart
Am I seeking the presence of God or simply the comfort of routine religion?
Does the teaching I sit under lead me closer to holiness and truth?
Have I ignored conviction from the Holy Spirit for the sake of comfort?
Am I praying for discernment before following voices and influences?
Do I truly know the difference between emotionalism and the presence of God?
Thank you for being here.
