Honoring Our Brother’s In Christ

In honor of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, I reached out to several men of God and asked them a simple but powerful question: “What does brotherhood in Christ mean to you?” Their responses are heartfelt reminders that biblical brotherhood is more than friendship, it is encouragement, accountability, love, prayer, and standing together as we follow Jesus.

Alongside their testimonies, I want to offer a word of encouragement to every man reading this.

Brothers, stay rooted in God’s Word. Continue seeking the Lord, even when life becomes difficult. The world may misunderstand you, reject you, or even turn away, but Jesus never will. He promised:

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20

You are never alone. Your identity is not found in your struggles, your past, or the expectations of this world. You are deeply loved by God, and you are valued in His Kingdom.

To every husband, father, son, brother, friend, and man striving to walk with Christ: please know that you are seen, you are honored, and you are cared for. The Surrendered Walk family wants you to know that you are godly loved, appreciated, and supported. We are grateful for the men who continue to stand firm in the faith and point others toward Jesus.

May these testimonies encourage your heart, strengthen your faith, and remind you that iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). Keep pressing forward. Keep abiding in Christ. Keep fighting the good fight of faith.

Brotherhood looks like a group of men who encourage one another to grow closer to God, stand firm in truth, and live out their faith with intentionality. Walking together through ups and downs, wins and losses, holding each other accountable but from a place of love, praying for one another, and offering support when one needs it. Brotherhood is built on trust, humility, and a desire to follow Christ, continuously reminding each other that we’re not perfect nor meant to walk this journey alone. As iron sharpens iron, brothers in faith help strengthen one another to become the men God has called them to be.

Brotherhood in Christ, to me this means being held to another level of accountability.

I don’t mean this just in the worldly and fleshly manner, but something that transcends that, the Spirit. When you find a brother in Christ, that relationship is not based on the men in the group it’s based on the reflection of GOD in each of the men.

This is important to me because as brothers we pull on each other in times of need and frustration. We’re calling eachother out to shift to deeper level. And one thing about it, it's not about competition, it's a genuine level of love, and respect. We’re here for each other even when it’s the hard truths we don't ever want to hear. But you know, when it comes from that circle of brothers it's nothing but GOD.

To me essentially it’s just being there for each other and encouraging each other. Essentially holding each other up and holding each other accountable.

Brotherhood, especially in my faith walk, looks like having people who stand with you in both strength and struggle. It’s about accountability, encouragement, and honesty guys who will challenge you to grow, call you out when you’re off track, and remind you of who you’re trying to become.

It’s not just about good times, but about showing up consistently, praying for each other, and walking through life together with purpose. Real brotherhood is rooted in trust, humility, and a shared desire to live out our faith in a genuine way.

Brotherhood is bigger than love to me. It’s about loyalty, accountability,  and respect.   My brother suppose to tell me the hard truth no matter what.  Respect each passion, relationship, and  self. I expect my brothers to be successful and  motivate each other. If one bro is more spiritual working hard on his walk with Christ, I may be physically stronger and the other is financially well off. I expect us all help improve each others weakness so we all can be stronger in all three areas. A brotherhood is earned and thats why I can count on one hand of the ones I call my true brothers.  I have to trust you and it has to be by actions not words. A strong brotherhood is the key to success if you ask me!

When I hear Brotherhood in Christ! The first thing that comes to mind is, “Am I my Brother’s Keeper! An unbeatable and unbreakable bond that makes me love and watch over my brother as if I was watching over myself. Treating their soul as my Top Priority! Jesus sacrificed His Life to secure our souls as if it was His own. Nothing was going to beat or break Him from making it to The Cross, The Grave or The Resurrection! Why??? Because our souls was His Top Priority!!!

Brotherhood to me is a mutual understanding and respect for men that look like me, for we have a shared experience here in this country, on this planet, at the same time. We often have the same struggles and the same shortcomings that bond us together. That empathy and adversity bring us closer together in my eyes.

It’s the same type of feeling people have for blood siblings. Everyone may not always see eye to eye or agree on everything, which is fine. You still have a reverence for them and want to see them do good and be successful nonetheless. You also help in any way you can. Not saying you have to go out of your way, but when you can assist, you do so.

You share valuable information that can help him and his family along the way as well. It’s still on the brother to do his part. Help those who help themselves.

Also providing guidance, clarity, a voice of reason, and a shoulder to lean on. Being a brother is holding each other accountable as well, which can be hard to do because we all are flawed. Hearing about your shortcomings from someone that has their own can be difficult. But through it all, you both continue to grow and learn from the relationship. 🙏🏾
